Well, I wish this question was equally simple it sounds…in that location are so many factors that go into pricing of cakes, most of which I won't bore you with, yet, it is important to know some basics when starting your search for your nuptials cake.   This post is meant to be light hearted and a little humorous and so please notation before reading…. 🙂

Beginning, have a upkeep in mind!  What I mean by that, is that you should take a full general thought of what you want to spend or can afford to spend on your cake.  I get that for virtually people, they have no thought what a wedding block costs, but it helps to get comfortable with the fact that a hymeneals block for 100 volition kickoff around $half-dozen per serving.  Well perhaps it volition be less if you get your cake from Costco, (no dig on Costco, I dearest that store!), but seriously, this is a definite case of "yous become what you lot pay for".

Bakeries such as ours, with an established reputation, that bakes from scratch using high quality ingredients, and that are very familiar with the local venues, are going to exist worth the money.  We know how to properly bake and construct a tiered block.  We know how to deliver a large, heavy cake and we accept the nice, cooled van to deliver information technology with.  You just can't get that from a grocery shop bakery or your "friend of a friend" who said they can brand your cake for $100 bucks!  With a wedding, there is no "do-over" and so you need to get with a bakery you can trust to go information technology right!

With that said, a good place to beginning when establishing your block upkeep, is by kickoff taking a look at your guest count.  If y'all plan to have 100 guests, your cake volition toll less than a block for 250 guests right?  Well, yes…. mayhap, but non always.  Our cakes are priced by the serving, based on size and design.  More on that after…

Thanks to Pinterest, there are about a billion wedding cake photos to cull from!  Typically, a buttercream cake will price less than a fondant cake.  However, not all designs can be achieved with buttercream, so go along that in mind when looking at cake photos.  Our buttercream cakes showtime at $6 per serving and our fondant cakes start at $7 per serving.  And then here is the easy part – if you want a tiered cake with 100 servings, multiply $6 X 100 and voila, your cake will starting time at $600 for buttercream.  Does that mean that all buttercream cakes are $6 per serving?  The simple answer is no.  But like not all fondant cakes will remain at $7 per serving, however, it's a good place to start.

Volition a fake block or a imitation tier save you money on your nuptials block?  I'm sorry to say, but the reply is no.  Information technology seems like having a clamper of Styrofoam vs. a piece of succulent cake should cost less.  I know logically, it sounds like information technology should.  So in an effort to dispel that myth, I will explain why it'due south not the case.  A fake tier, or block dummy, as nosotros call them, costs almost the same it does to bake the actual block.  So, no price savings at that place.  Second, I personally find cake dummies more difficult to piece of work with then real cake, so I'one thousand my opinion, information technology actually takes longer to decorate them so it does real cake.  Then the time that it typically takes to decorate can actually exist longer, which means, y'all guessed it, no cost savings there either!

What nigh a sail block?  We exercise offering sheet cakes, and they are a smashing way to supplement cake servings, without paying for a huge tiered cake with 250 servings.  What I mean by that is, if your invitee count is 250, order a smaller tiered cake (the about common size block we bake is a 3 tier with eighty servings & shown in the photo above) and so supplement the rest of your cake servings with sheet block.  Sheet cakes are basic frosted cakes, delivered to the kitchen, cut by catering staff, and never seen by guests, therefore they cost less per serving and so a tiered cake.  Keep in heed, that we will only make sail cakes for wedding clients ordering a two tier or larger cake from u.s.a..

Another matter to annotation almost cakes, the more detailed the cake design, the higher the price will exist.  And, just because a block looks like a "simple" blueprint, doesn't mean that it is.  I know there are  many amazing cakes online, and in magazines and with cake artists pushing cake design to new limits, it's easy to fall in beloved with and then many of the cute cakes we all come across.  Things like hand painting, edible gilt, carbohydrate flowers, tons of little sugar pearls on the block, all translate into beautiful designs, only too a higher cake price.  Some of these cakes tin can run equally much as $15 per serving…gasp!  But think about it, you go out to dinner at a concatenation restaurant and pay $15 for a so and then meal, that was probably frozen and took about 20 minutes to brand.   A cake artist can spend HOURS from outset to finish on your wedding cake, and we recall our time is worth it.  Cake decorating is an art and not just anyone can practise information technology.  Not to mention ingredient costs, like fresh fruit, butter and eggs!  That stuff is expensive!

Carbohydrate flowers will e'er toll more than than fresh flowers.  Why?  Because they are very time consuming to brand, and require a skilled hand, with noesis on how to construct, wire, etc. a beautiful looking blossom made from carbohydrate!  Sugar flowers can first at near $fifteen per flower – the more complex the bloom design, the higher the price.  As much a I love, honey, love sugar flowers on a block, most couples practice non have the budget to spend $200-300 on merely carbohydrate flowers alone, I get information technology!  And so, unless you lot practise, opt for fresh flowers instead.

Lastly, don't forget that there volition be a delivery charge to deliver your cake to the venue.  How much that fee will be, depends on the location of your venue from our bakery.  The further we have to travel, the higher your delivery price will be.  In some cases, it'due south non only the distance we accept to travel, simply the time it will take to make the delivery – traffic, difficult roads, lack of parking, etc.  I would say our average delivery fee is about $fifty-65, with locations such as Santa Barbara and Los Angeles being $100-150+.  When y'all consider how stressful a wedding block delivery can exist, getting the cake to the venue on time, battling the oestrus, the weight of the block, and the fact that they are apartment out awkward to handle, y'all should always opt for delivery…let the professionals do what they practice!

I promise this mail service provides some insight into the cost of cakes, and helps in some small way in determining your block budget.  I'll exist doing a post well-nigh dessert bars shortly!
